We are back in business for cyclocross season! Starting with Englewood Open CX in Fall River Wisconsin. A new venue for American cyclocross that proved well for our riders.
Kaya and Chris drove the van from Donkey Label headquarters in Minneapolis to meet the rest of the team in Wisconsin on Thursday evening. Friday morning we were excited to start dialing new equipment and getting fitted into our fresh Donkey Label kits before heading to the venue for our first pre-ride of the season. After a bit of rain, the track was running super well and we were loving it!
By our afternoon start times on Saturday, the track had dried up and loosened quite a bit, but we were ready after more recon. Starting with the women’s race, Kaya and Sidney took an early lead, distancing the rest of the pack almost instantly. Later, Sidney powered away from Kaya and the two finished a commanding 1st and 2nd on the day! As for the men’s race, Scott rode a clean race barely getting beaten, and left with a 2nd on the day. Jules and I fought hard not far behind, but made a few mistakes and finished up 4th and 6th.
Sunday came and the track was in just about the same shape, which meant we would try to clean up any mistakes we made yesterday, and give it another shot despite a little soreness and tire. Sidney and Kaya had another pretty good day, with 1st and 4th place respectively. The men too, Scott and I played some tactics to get the win for Scott and a 3rd place for me, while Jules brought home a 9th on the day.
Overall a great first weekend for the team and me, getting adjusted to the new setup, and elite racing. I had a blast at this first race and can’t wait to build throughout the season. Hopefully, the whole team brings some more confidence and can build towards the next weekend in Roanoke for Go Cross!
